Cycling the Atlas Mountains: It is an Experience of a Lifetime

Cycling the Atlas Mountains. At high altitudes, there is a quiet that you can only feel. The only sounds are your breath and the soft noise of tires on the road. Why the Atlas Mountains are a Cyclist’s Paradise

Unbeatable Varied Terrain: From challenging ascents that test your legs to exhilarating descents that reward your spirit. The riding is endlessly diverse. You’ll cruise through lush palm oases, climb into rugged, snow-dusted peaks, and soar through dramatic red rock gorges.

A Two-Wheeled Cultural Journey: Cycling connects you to the ground and the people around you like no other transport. You will ride by Berber villages that seem stuck in time. You will get warm smiles from the villagers. They may invite you in for a glass of strong mint tea. The trip is as much about the people you meet as the peaks you crest.

Ideal Cycling Weather: Over 300 days of sunshine per year equate to a long cycling season. Spring (March-May) is full of wildflowers and green valleys. Autumn (September-November) has sunny, clear skies and pleasant temperatures. This is the best time to hike mountain passes.

Our Most Popular Cycling the Atlas Mountains Routes

Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m): The legendary ride on the Marrakech-Ouarzazate main road. Cycling over the highest mountain pass in North Africa is a badge of honour for any rider. The view from the top is unmatched.

Tizi n’Test Pass (2,100m): This climb is more remote and harder than the famous Tizi n’Test. It offers riders stunning views and a thrilling ride down to the Sahara.

The Dades & Todra Gorges: Ride through the heart of these titanic canyons, where behemoth rock walls hundreds of meters high frame your path. It’s a breathtaking and awe-inspiring experience.

The Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs: Enjoy a mostly flat ride through various cultures. The area has ancient, walled earth castles (kasbahs) and large olive groves.

What to Expect on a Morocco Cycling Tour

We’ve designed our tours so you can focus entirely on the ride and the scenery.

Support Rides: Our support van is always just a few minutes away. It carries your bags, offers mechanical help, and has ice water and snacks ready for you. Want to snap a photo or just enjoy a section of the route without your panniers? The van’s got you covered.

Expert Local Guides: Our guides are passionate cyclists and local experts. They don’t just know the route; they know the hidden stops, the best places for tea, and the stories behind the landscapes you’re riding through.

Authentic Accommodation & Cuisine: We do more than regular hotels. Imagine lovely riads in old kasbahs and cosy guesthouses. Here, you can enjoy tasty, home-cooked Moroccan meals like tagine and couscous. These meals will prepare you for your next day’s adventure.

Choose the Right Tour: We have trips for all fitness levels. We offer tough expeditions for skilled climbers. We also have e-bike tours for everyone to enjoy the scenery.
Cycling the Atlas Mountains is a vacation, but one that you will be relating years from now. It’s the sunburn on your legs as you ride to a peak, the taste of fresh dates at a roadside restaurant. It’s the memory of a sunset over the peaks from your riad.

At Morocco Cycling Tours, we live in these mountains. We have created the best itineraries for you to enjoy their magic.
